The Gold Coast 600 is one of the most popular V8 Supercars races in Australia. Most fans would be hard-pressed to identify how this race could be made better, but in the past two years, it has leapt closer to total perfection with the addition of a Vegas-style day club on Macintosh Island called Club 600. We here at Bean Bags R Us are always excited by this race because it is held just down the street from our office, but we are exceptionally proud this year because of our role in supplying V8 Supercars with several oversized bean bag chairs for VIP guests and partiers at Club 600.
About the Castrol Gold Coast 600
Even though the Bathurst 1000, known as the Great Race, is considered to be the most significant V8 Supercars event, the thrills are far from over for the year. Only a few weeks after the Bathurst 1000 is the Gold Coast 600, which debuted in 2009 after the U.S. IndyCar Series decided to skip the race, which is held on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
The first year of the Gold Coast 600 included two 150 km races, but in 2010, this was increased to two 300 km races, which made it a two-driver event. In addition, the 2010 to 2012 races required one of these drivers to have an international reputation. Major changes occurred once more in 2013 when the international driver requirement was lifted. In this year, the Gold Coast 600 also became the third event of the newly formed Pirtek Enduro Cup, which includes the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.
Entertainment and Club 600
The Gold Coast 600 is much more than a car race. It is a multi-faceted festival that includes several forms of entertainment near the Surfers Paradise circuit. The festival is not only sponsored by V8 Supercars but also by the Queensland government and the City of Gold Coast, and it has been officially dubbed the V8 Superfest.
The entertainment event anticipated by most was a concert by the legendary rockers of Cold Chisel, who kicked off their One-Night Stand tour at the Gold Coast 600. After spending some time apart, Cold Chisel reunited in 2009 at another V8 Supercars event, the Sydney 500.
Joining Cold Chisel this year was Robby Gordon and his stadium trucks, which are known for reaching speeds of up to 210 km/h and flying up to 100 metres through the air after launching off of giant ramps.
For the second year in a row, V8 Supercars opened an over-18 day club on Macintosh Island that is styled after Las Vegas. Club 600, as it is officially known, has been an amazing success both years, allowing thousands of visitors a chance to revel in the sunshine among celebrities with drinks, DJs and live music. Macintosh Island is one of the most beautiful parks in the Gold Coast, and it has been called the oasis of Surfers Paradise. It is a popular park for picnics, family gatherings and weddings. The tranquil atmosphere includes trees, bridges, creeks and waterfalls, and a playground is open for the kids.
This year, Gold Coast entertainment guru Billy Cross was recruited to promote the event. A stage was erected on the island’s beach for several world-class DJs, including Emily Scott, Brooke Evers and Some Blonde DJ.
“My vision is bringing a Vegas feel to the Gold Coast,” said Cross. “I really want to create that incredible festival vibe on track by giving people a dance party environment where they can have an awesome time in a cool location.”
COO of V8 Supercars, Shane Howard, was excited to bring it all together for fans of the race. “Club 600 is the ultimate party destination for those looking for a great time,” said Howard.
All ticketed attendees of the Gold Coast 600 received complimentary VIP access to the club, which was located just behind the pit lane for the driving teams. However, this year, Club 600 was furnished with 15 Big Boppa bean bag chairs from Bean Bags R Us.
The Big Boppa is one of the most popular bean bag chairs we offer, and it was named after the famed musician Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr. This tall and wide chair allows anyone to sit in comfort and style. The cover is made of water-resistant polyester that is ideal for indoor or outdoor use at private homes, resorts, spas and hotels. These chairs can also be customized with a screen-printed logo or company name for promotional purposes.
