Frequently Asked Questions

Bean Bag Filling

Great question – yes, you can! While traditional polystyrene beans are the most common filling, there are several alternative options available depending on your comfort preferences, intended use, and environmental values.

Popular Alternatives to Beans:

1. Shredded Foam

Shredded memory foam or furniture-grade foam offers a soft, plush, couch-like feel and is popular for indoor use. It holds its shape well and provides long-lasting support.

However, it’s important to note that shredded foam is not suitable for outdoor bean bags or pool floats. When exposed to moisture, it can absorb water, disintegrate, and become mould-prone. For any outdoor or water-adjacent bean bag, we strongly recommend sticking with standard polystyrene bean bag filling.

2. Eco-Friendly Fillings

Options like recycled textiles or biodegradable beads can be used for indoor bean bags, but:

  • They do not provide the same bounce or lightweight comfort as traditional beads

  • They are not suitable for outdoor or poolside use

3. Stuffed Toys (Great for Kids’ Bean Bags!)

For children’s bean bags, a fun and practical alternative is using old or unwanted stuffed toys as filling. This is a great way to recycle soft toys and create a plush, squishy seat for your little one. Important: Only bean bags with inner liners are suitable for this purpose, as they feature longer zippers for easy access and safe closure.

Our Recommendation

For best overall performance, especially in outdoor, poolside, or commercial environments, we recommend using standard polystyrene bean bag filling, available at most department and hardware stores. It’s:

  • Lightweight and water-resistant

  • Easy to top up or refill over time

  • Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use

In Summary

Yes – you can use shredded foam, eco-friendly materials, or even stuffed toys as alternative fillings, depending on your needs.

  • Shredded foam and eco-friendly fillers are for indoor use only

  • Stuffed toys are ideal for kids’ bean bags with inner liners

  • Standard polystyrene beads remain the best choice for outdoor and all-purpose bean bags

Still unsure which filling to use? Contact our team – we’re happy to help you choose the right option for your lifestyle and space.

For best results we recommend standard beanbag filling for all our products

Yes – our bean bags can be filled with shredded foam, but it depends on how and where you plan to use them.

Shredded memory foam or furniture-grade foam is a popular alternative to traditional polystyrene beans, offering a softer, heavier, and more supportive feel. Many people love foam-filled bean bags for indoor use due to their couch-like comfort.

What to Know About Shredded Foam:

  • Great for indoor use – plush and supportive
  • Long-lasting – compresses less over time than beads
  • Not suitable for outdoor or pool bean bags – foam absorbs water and can break down or become mouldy
  • Heavier and bulkier than polystyrene – harder to move and transport

Important Note:

If you're considering shredded foam:

  • Choose a bean bag with an inner liner, which makes filling and cleaning much easier
  • Only use shredded foam for indoor products – avoid using it in any outdoor or poolside bean bags

For the best all-around performance, especially for outdoor and water-friendly models, we recommend using standard polystyrene bean bag filling available at most major retailers.

In Summary

Yes – you can use shredded foam filling in our bean bags, but only for indoor use. It offers great comfort, but it’s not suitable for outdoor or wet environments.

How to Empty a Bean Bag

Emptying a bean bag can be a little messy if you're not prepared, but with the right method, it’s quick and easy. Whether you're washing the cover, replacing the filling, or switching to a different type of fill, here’s how to do it safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Need:

  • A large plastic bag, storage container, or another bean bag liner
  • A second person (highly recommended)
  • A funnel or a cardboard tube (optional, but helps control flow)
  • A calm, draft-free space indoors to reduce static mess

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Open the Outer Cover
Unzip the bean bag cover to access the inner liner or filling. If your bean bag has an inner liner, simply remove it and set the filling aside.
  2. Create a Controlled Opening
If there’s no liner, gently open the zipper on the inner bag containing the beads. Insert a large funnel or cardboard tube into the opening of your storage bag or container.
  3. Transfer the Filling
With one person holding the bean bag and the other guiding the funnel, pour the filling slowly into the container. Take your time to avoid spills – the beads are lightweight and can scatter easily.
  4. Minimise Static
Lightly mist the area or the inside of the funnel with water using a spray bottle to reduce static cling. Avoid doing this near electronics or in a windy area.
  5. Seal & Store the Filling
Once emptied, seal the storage bag or container tightly to keep the beads clean and contained until you're ready to refill.

In Summary

To empty your bean bag, use a large container, a funnel, and a second person for best results. Work slowly, in a draft-free area, and store the filling securely to reuse later.

How Long Does Bean Bag Filling Last?

The lifespan of your bean bag filling depends on how often it's used, the type of filling, and the environment it's in. On average, standard polystyrene (EPS) bean bag filling lasts 6–18 months before needing a top-up or replacement.

Factors That Affect Longevity:

  • Frequency of Use – Daily use will compress the beads more quickly than occasional use
  • Type of Filling – EPS beans slowly flatten over time; shredded foam may last longer but is heavier and not suitable for outdoor use
  • Weight & Activity – Heavier users or kids jumping on the bean bag will cause faster compression
  • Environment – Heat, humidity, and moisture can also reduce the life of the filling

Signs It’s Time to Refill:

  • The bean bag feels flat or saggy
  • It doesn’t hold its shape or support as well
  • You’re sitting closer to the floor than before

Topping Up Your Bean Bag:

  • Simply unzip the liner and add more beans as needed
  • Filling is available from major retailers like Kmart, Big W, and Target
  • Always follow the recommended fill volume listed on your product page

In Summary

Most bean bag filling lasts 6–18 months, depending on usage. When it starts to lose shape or comfort, a quick top-up can restore it like new.

Is EPS Bean Bag Fill Recyclable?

Yes – EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) bean bag fill is recyclable, but not through regular curbside recycling bins.

EPS is a lightweight plastic material commonly used in packaging and bean bag filling. While it’s technically recyclable, it must be taken to specialised recycling centres that accept polystyrene products.

How to Recycle EPS Fill:

  • Check with your local council to see if they offer EPS recycling drop-off points
  • Look for dedicated polystyrene recycling facilities in your area (some accept clean, bagged EPS beads)
  • Do not place EPS in your household recycling bin – it can contaminate other recyclables and is often rejected by standard facilities

Reuse Before You Recycle:

If your bean bag fill is still in decent condition, consider:

  • Refilling or topping up another bean bag
  • Donating it to schools, art programs, or community groups
  • Using it for cushion refills, packing material, or craft projects

In Summary

Yes – EPS bean bag fill is recyclable, but it must be taken to a specialised facility. Check with your local council for drop-off options, or consider reusing it first.

Need help finding a recycling option near you? Contact our team – we’re happy to help!

Is EPS Bean Bag Filling Safe and Eco-Friendly?

✅ Is It Safe?

Yes – EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) bean bag filling is considered safe for everyday use and has a relatively low environmental impact when handled properly.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC):

  • EPS beads are non-toxic and inert once manufactured
  • Any potential carcinogens used in early production are no longer present in the finished product
  • The main safety concern is accidental inhalation or ingestion by small children – which is why child-safety zippers are mandatory in Australia and the U.S.

When safely contained within a quality bean bag and used as directed, EPS is completely safe for people, pets, and indoor environments.

🌱 Is It Environmentally Friendly?

EPS is made from 98% air and 2% plastic, which means:

  • It uses minimal raw materials during production
  • It does not contain ozone-depleting substances like CFCs or HCFCs
  • It produces no harmful emissions during manufacturing

While EPS is not biodegradable, it can be recycled at specialised facilities and repurposed into useful products such as insulation, picture frames, and more.

In Summary

Yes – EPS bean bag filling is safe and has a low-impact manufacturing process. It’s a practical option when used responsibly and kept out of landfills through reuse or recycling.

Want to explore eco-friendly alternatives or learn how to recycle EPS? Contact our team – we’re happy to help!

Short Answer: No – We Do Not Recommend Using Recycled Beads for Bean Bag Filling

While recycled beads (sometimes marketed as eco-beans or eco-beads) may seem like a sustainable or budget-friendly option, they are not designed for use in bean bags and generally lead to a poor seating experience.

Why Recycled Beads Aren’t Ideal:

  • Recycled beads are usually made from ground-up packaging materials like packing peanuts or foam blocks.
  • They are irregularly shaped, soft, and lack the resilience and support of virgin EPS beads.
  • They don’t provide consistent body support, making your bean bag feel lumpy, flat, or uneven.
  • Over time, they compress rapidly and may even degrade, leading to a shorter lifespan for your bean bag.

For the Best Experience:

We always recommend using high-quality virgin polystyrene beads, which:

  • Are perfectly round and uniform in size
  • Provide superior comfort and ergonomic support
  • Offer better durability, bounce, and resistance to compression
  • Are the only type of fill suitable for outdoor or pool bean bags

In Summary

Recycled beads are not recommended for bean bag filling. They may seem eco-friendly, but they’re soft, inconsistent, and uncomfortable. For the best results, always use virgin EPS beads designed specifically for bean bags.

Need help finding the right fill or calculating how much you need? Contact our team – we’re happy to help!

EPS stands for Expanded Polystyrene – a lightweight, rigid plastic foam material commonly used as bean bag filling.

EPS beads are the small, round, air-filled pellets that give bean bags their comfort, shape, and support. They’re the most popular and widely recommended filling for both indoor and outdoor bean bags.

Why EPS?

  • ✅ Lightweight – easy to move, carry, and refill
  • ✅ Supportive – conforms to your body while maintaining shape
  • ✅ Affordable & accessible – available at most major retailers
  • ✅ Water-resistant & buoyant – ideal for pool bean bags and outdoor use
  • ✅ Safe – non-toxic and inert when used as intended

Is EPS Eco-Friendly?

EPS is made from plastic but consists of about 98% air and only 2% material, making it incredibly efficient in terms of resources.

While it’s not biodegradable, EPS is recyclable at specialised facilities, and many users reuse or repurpose it when topping up bean bags.

In Summary

EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) is a safe, lightweight, and supportive bean bag filling that provides the ideal mix of comfort, durability, and versatility.

How to Clean Up a Bean Bag Fill Leak

Cleaning up a bean bag fill leak (usually polystyrene beads) can be tricky – but with the right approach, it can be done quickly and safely.

EPS (expanded polystyrene) beads are lightweight, static-prone, and tend to scatter easily, so it's important to stay calm and follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Clean-Up Guide:

  1. Avoid Vacuuming Without Preparation
    • Regular vacuum cleaners can blow beads around due to static or even clog the motor
    • If you must vacuum, use one with a hose attachment and cover the nozzle with a stocking or mesh to trap beads
  2. Use a Static Solution
    • Lightly mist the area with water from a spray bottle to reduce static cling
    • This helps the beads stick together and makes them easier to collect
  3. Use a Dustpan or Cardboard
    • Gently sweep the beads into a pile using a dustpan, piece of cardboard, or even a plastic ruler
    • A slightly damp cloth or sponge can also help pick up stragglers
  4. Collect in a Large Bag or Container
    • Place the recovered beads into a garbage bag or large bin
    • If the inner liner is damaged, set it aside and refill or repair once the mess is contained
  5. Check for Static Cling
    • Beads often cling to furniture, clothing, and walls – use a damp cloth or lint roller to pick them up

How to Prevent Future Leaks:

  • Ensure your bean bag has an inner liner to contain the filling
  • Check that zippers are fully closed and child-safe locks are secure
  • If a seam has come undone, repair it immediately or contact us for assistance

In Summary

To clean a bean bag fill leak, avoid vacuuming dry, reduce static with a water mist, and collect beads using a dustpan or damp cloth. Work calmly and slowly – they’re light but manageable!

How to Dispose of a Bean Bag Responsibly

Disposing of a bean bag responsibly depends on its condition, materials, and local recycling options. While bean bags aren’t typically accepted in curbside recycling bins, there are several eco-friendly ways to give them a second life or dispose of them properly.

Options for Responsible Disposal:

  1. Repurpose or Reuse
    • Donate it – If your bean bag is still in usable condition, consider donating it to a local charity, school, shelter, or community group
    • Repurpose the cover – Use the fabric for DIY projects, pet beds, or storage sacks
    • Use the beans – Reuse the filling for other cushions, packaging, or insulation projects
  2. Recycle the Filling
    • Most bean bags are filled with EPS (expanded polystyrene) beads, which can sometimes be recycled at specialty recycling centres
    • Contact your local council or search for EPS recycling drop-off points in your area
  3. General Waste Disposal
    • If the bean bag is damaged beyond reuse and local recycling isn't an option, you may dispose of it through your general waste
    • To minimise bulk, remove and bag the filling separately before discarding the cover

Environmental Tip:

Before throwing it away, check if parts of your bean bag (like cotton, polyester, or foam) can be separated and recycled individually or reused creatively.

In Summary

To dispose of a bean bag, consider donating, repurposing, or recycling its components where possible. EPS filling may be accepted at select recycling centres, while covers can often be reused.

How to Dry Lambswool Properly

Lambswool should always be air-dried naturally to maintain its softness, shape, and longevity. It’s a delicate, natural fibre that can shrink, distort, or become damaged if exposed to heat.

Drying Instructions:

  • Do Not Tumble Dry
Lambswool is sensitive to heat – never place it in a dryer, even on low settings.
  • Gently Remove Excess Water
After hand washing, press the lambswool between two clean towels to absorb moisture. Do not wring, twist, or squeeze harshly, as this can misshape the fibres.
  • Lay Flat to Dry
Place the item on a flat surface, ideally on a dry towel, in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Reshape it gently while damp to help it retain its original form.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat Sources
Never dry lambswool in the sun, near radiators, or with a hairdryer – excessive heat can damage the fibres and cause shrinkage.

In Summary

Lambswool should be air-dried flat, away from direct heat or sunlight. Never tumble dry or wring it out – gentle handling is key to keeping it soft and beautiful.

How to Dry Your Pool Bean Bag

Drying your pool bean bag properly is important to prevent mould, mildew, and damage to the fabric or filling. While our pool bean bags are made from quick-drying, water-resistant materials, they can retain water inside the filling – especially after prolonged use in the pool.

Drying Instructions:

  • Drain Excess Water
After use, lift the bean bag and gently press out as much water as possible. Allow any built-in mesh panels to assist with drainage.
  • Air Dry in Direct Sunlight
Place your bean bag in direct sunlight, which will help it dry faster. Be patient – it may take several days for the internal filling to dry out completely, especially if it's been fully submerged.
  • Flip & Rotate Regularly
Turn the bean bag periodically to ensure even drying on all sides.
  • Ensure Thorough Drying Before Storage
Before storing your bean bag, make sure the filling is 100% dry. Storing a damp bean bag can lead to mould, mildew, and unpleasant odours.

In Summary

Yes – it’s safe and recommended to dry your pool bean bag in direct sunlight. Just ensure the filling is completely dry before storing to prevent mould or mildew.

Need help with care or maintenance? Contact our team – we’re always happy to assist!

Top Tips to Prevent Mould & Mildew

Mould and mildew thrive in damp, poorly ventilated environments, so prevention starts with keeping your bean bag clean, dry, and well-aired. Whether your bean bag is used indoors or outdoors, a few simple steps can help protect it from unwanted moisture and odours.

✅ Keep It Dry

  • Always dry your bean bag thoroughly after exposure to water, especially if used by the pool or outdoors
  • Air-dry in direct sunlight when possible – UV light helps kill bacteria and speeds up drying
  • Ensure inner filling is completely dry before storing

✅ Store Properly

  • Do not store your bean bag while damp – wait until both the cover and filling are fully dry
  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated space
  • Use a breathable storage bag or cover – avoid plastic bags, which can trap moisture

✅ Clean Regularly

  • Wipe off spills or stains immediately with a damp cloth and mild soap
  • Vacuum or shake out debris that may hold moisture
  • For outdoor models, rinse off salt, chlorine, or dirt and let them dry fully after each use

✅ Use the Right Fabric

  • Our outdoor fabrics like Olefin, polyester, and solution-dyed acrylic are mildew-resistant but still need proper care
  • Avoid leaving bean bags in the rain or on wet ground for extended periods

In Summary

To prevent mould and mildew, always keep your bean bag clean, dry, and properly stored. Dry it thoroughly after use, especially if exposed to water, and avoid storing it damp or in enclosed spaces.

Need help restoring or cleaning a mould-affected bean bag? Contact our team – we’re happy to assist!

How to Unzip Your Bean Bag

Instructions are also printed on the warning labels attached to the inner liner and outer cover, but here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Find the small hole at the base of the zipper slider – this is where the tab would normally be attached.
  2. Insert a paper clip into the hole. This acts as a temporary zipper pull.
  3. Gently lift the paper clip upward to disengage the locking mechanism.
  4. While holding the paper clip in place, slide the zipper open or closed as needed.

Important Notes:

  • Do not use force or lubricants. If the zipper doesn't move, the paper clip is likely not seated correctly on the locking side.
  • Inspect the zipper slider closely and try again from the opposite side of the hole if needed.
  • Always remove the paper clip after adjusting the zipper to maintain child safety.

In Summary

To unzip your bean bag, insert a paper clip into the hole on the zipper slider to release the lock. Slide gently, and be sure to remove the paper clip when finished.

Can Bean Bags Get Mouldy?

Yes – like any soft furnishing, your bean bag can be susceptible to mould or mildew if it’s exposed to moisture and not properly dried or stored. However, with proper care and attention, mould growth can be easily prevented.

🕵️ When Is Mould Most Likely to Occur?

  • If the bean bag is left damp or wet, especially after outdoor or pool use
  • If it is stored in a humid, poorly ventilated area
  • If the filling or cover is not fully dry before storage
  • When food, drink, or organic matter is spilled and not cleaned up promptly

🧼 How to Prevent Mould:

  • Dry thoroughly after exposure to water – this includes both the outer cover and the inner filling
  • Air out regularly, especially in humid climates
  • Store in a dry, ventilated area when not in use – avoid sealed containers or damp spaces
  • Clean spills immediately with mild soap and water, and allow the bean bag to dry completely
  • Sunlight helps – occasional drying in direct sunlight can naturally inhibit mould growth

💧 Materials That Resist Mould:

Many of our outdoor bean bags are made with mould- and mildew-resistant fabrics like olefin, solution-dyed acrylic, and PU-coated polyester, but even these need to be properly cared for to remain effective.

In Summary

Yes – your bean bag can develop mould if left wet or stored improperly. To prevent this, always dry it thoroughly after use, clean spills promptly, and store it in a well-ventilated area.

Mould on Your Bean Bag: What to Do

If you notice mould on your bean bag, it's important to act quickly to clean and prevent further spread. While our fabrics are designed to resist mould, no material is entirely mould-proof—especially when exposed to moisture for extended periods.

Why Does Mould Occur?

Mould spores are naturally present in the air and can grow on any surface—fabric, timber, metal, or concrete—when the conditions are right: warmth, moisture, and poor ventilation. Even mould-resistant fabrics can develop mould if they’re left damp or dirty.

How to Remove Mould:

We recommend using a product like Exit Mould, which is safe for our fabrics and effective in killing mould spores.

Step-by-step:

  1. Spray Exit Mould directly onto the affected area
  2. Let it sit for the time indicated on the label
  3. Rinse the fabric thoroughly with clean water
  4. If your cover is removable, wash it as per the care instructions
  5. Air dry completely in direct sunlight to help kill remaining spores and speed drying

☀️ Sunlight is a natural mould deterrent and helps dry the fabric thoroughly

Tips to Prevent Mould:

  • Always store your bean bag in a dry, well-ventilated space
  • After outdoor or pool use, allow the fabric and filling to dry completely before storage
  • Clean regularly and remove any organic debris, dust, or moisture that can encourage mould growth
  • Ensure proper airflow around and under the bean bag, especially if stored on decks or patios

What to Know About Mould-Resistant Fabrics:

Our outdoor fabrics (like Olefin, polyester, and solution-dyed acrylic) are mould- and mildew-resistant, which helps slow down growth—but doesn’t make them mould-proof.

No manufacturer can guarantee a product will never develop mould under high humidity or improper storage conditions. Regular maintenance is key to extending the life and appearance of your product.

In Summary

Mould can grow on any surface under the right conditions, including bean bag fabrics. While our materials resist mould growth, it’s essential to keep your product clean and dry. Use a cleaner like Exit Mould for treatment and always dry thoroughly to prevent recurrence.

How to Deodorise Your Bean Bag

If your bean bag has developed an unpleasant smell, don’t worry — it can usually be resolved with a few simple steps. Odours can occur due to moisture, spills, trapped dust, or simply from being stored in a closed space for too long.

✅ 1. Air It Out

  • Place your bean bag outside in a well-ventilated, shaded area, or in direct sunlight for 2–4 hours (sunlight helps kill bacteria and neutralise odours).
  • Gently fluff and rotate it so air can circulate through the filling.

🧽 2. Clean the Cover

  • If your bean bag has a removable cover, unzip it and wash it according to the care label.
  • Use a mild detergent with warm water, and let it air dry completely.
  • For non-removable covers, spot clean using a fabric-safe cleaner or a solution of water and white vinegar.

🌿 3. Neutralise Odours Naturally

  • Sprinkle baking soda over the bean bag surface, leave for a few hours, then vacuum it off.
  • For deeper odours, place an open container of baking soda or activated charcoal near the bean bag to absorb smells over time.

💨 4. Check the Filling

  • If the smell is coming from inside, your EPS beans may have absorbed moisture.
  • Empty the filling into a large, clean container and air it out in the sun.
  • If the smell persists, you may need to replace the filling (EPS beads are available at Kmart, Big W, or Target).

Tips to Prevent Future Odours:

  • Always dry your bean bag thoroughly after pool or outdoor use.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated space.
  • Avoid using the bean bag with wet clothing, towels, or pets.
  • Clean spills promptly and keep food or drinks away from the fabric.

In Summary

If your bean bag smells, start by airing it out, washing the cover, and checking the filling. Natural deodorisers like baking soda can help, and regular cleaning will prevent future odours.

How to Clean Pet Urine from a Bean Bag

Pet accidents happen – but with quick action and the right cleaning approach, you can remove the stain and smell from your bean bag. It’s important to clean both the fabric and, if affected, the inner filling to prevent lingering odours or bacteria.

🧼 1. Remove the Cover (If Possible)

  • If your bean bag has a removable cover, unzip it and take out the inner liner and filling.
  • Check if urine has soaked into the inner liner or beads – you may need to air or replace them.

🚿 2. Clean the Cover Thoroughly

  • Machine wash or hand wash the cover according to its care label.
  • Use cold to lukewarm water and a pet-safe enzymatic cleaner or white vinegar with mild detergent – these help break down urine proteins and neutralise odours.
  • Avoid using hot water, as it can set the stain.

🌞 3. Dry Completely

  • Air dry in direct sunlight – the sun naturally helps eliminate bacteria and odour.
  • Make sure the cover and any liner or filling are 100% dry before reassembling.

💨 4. Deodorise the Filling (If Affected)

  • If the filling was soiled, empty it into a container and air it out in a dry, sunny area.
  • If odour persists, it may be best to replace the EPS beans (available at Kmart, Big W, or Target).

Extra Tips:

  • Enzymatic pet cleaners are the most effective at removing urine odours completely.
  • For non-removable covers, use a spray bottle with diluted vinegar or pet cleaner, blot gently, and let it dry thoroughly.
  • Consider using a waterproof liner in the future to protect the inner fill from accidents.

In Summary

Clean the cover with a pet-safe enzymatic cleaner, air out or replace the filling if necessary, and ensure everything is completely dry before reassembling. Acting quickly is key to preventing stains and odours from setting.

Stuck Bean Bag Zipper? Here's How to Fix It

If your bean bag zipper has become stuck or difficult to open, don’t worry — it can often be resolved with a few simple steps. All our bean bags are fitted with premium YKK locking zippers, which are among the most reliable on the market. However, exposure to salt, chlorine, sand, or chemicals (especially on poolside products) can occasionally cause the zipper to seize.

Try This First:

💧 1. Rinse the Zipper

  • For outdoor and pool bean bags, always rinse thoroughly with fresh water after use to remove salt, sand, and chlorine.
  • Dry the zipper completely in a well-ventilated area.

🛠️ 2. Apply a Zipper Lubricant

  • Spray a small amount of WD-40 (or a silicone-based lubricant) directly onto the zipper teeth and slider.
  • Gently work the zipper back and forth to loosen it.
  • Wipe away any excess product before reuse.

🔐 3. Check the Locking Mechanism

  • All zippers are child-safe and feature a locking mechanism.
  • To open the zipper, insert a paper clip into the small hole where the tab would usually attach.
  • If it still won’t open, you may be inserting the clip on the wrong side of the locking mechanism — inspect the slider from the side to find the correct spot.

Still Stuck?

If the zipper cannot be freed and your bean bag includes an inner liner, we do offer replacement liners for $35.00. These can help you restore full functionality without replacing the entire bean bag.

In Summary

If your zipper is seized, try rinsing it and applying WD-40, and make sure you’re releasing the locking mechanism correctly. If needed, spare inner liners are available for purchase.

In Most Cases, the Zipper Is Not Broken

It just needs to be opened correctly using the built-in safety locking mechanism. All of our bean bags are fitted with YKK safety locking zippers, designed to comply with Australian and U.S. child safety regulations. This means the zipper pull (handle) is intentionally removed.

How to Open the Zipper:

  1. Locate the small hole on the zipper slider.
  2. Insert a paper clip, safety pin, or corn cob holder into the hole.
  3. Gently lift to release the locking mechanism.
  4. While holding it in place, slide the zipper open or closed.

📌 Important: Do not force the zipper without unlocking it first, as this may cause permanent damage and void the warranty.

Instructions & Labels:

  • Zipper opening instructions are printed on the warning label attached to your bean bag.
  • Guidance is also included in the instruction sheet supplied with your product.

If the Zipper Has Been Damaged:

If the zipper has been forced or damaged:

  • You may return the product for repair at your cost.
  • Repairs are charged at $50 including GST, plus return postage.
  • Return items to:
Bean Bags R Us – PO Box 417, Sanctuary Cove, QLD 4212

In Summary

Your zipper isn’t broken – it’s a child-safe, locking zipper. Use a paper clip or similar tool to unlock it. Forcing it may damage the mechanism and void your warranty.

Still need help? Contact our team – we’re happy to guide you through it or assist with a repair.

The Zipper is Likely Not Broken!

Good news – your zipper likely isn’t broken! All of our bean bags are fitted with YKK child-safety locking zippers, which are specially designed to comply with Australian and U.S. safety regulations. This means the zipper pull (handle) has been intentionally removed to prevent children from accessing the filling.

How to Open the Zipper:

To unlock the zipper safely and correctly:

  • Locate the small hole on the zipper slider (where the tab would normally be).
  • Insert a paper clip, safety pin, or corn cob holder into the hole.
  • Gently lift or rotate the clip to release the safety lock.
  • While holding the clip in place, slide the zipper open or closed as needed.

🛑 Important: Forcing the zipper without releasing the lock can damage the mechanism and void the warranty.

What If It Still Won’t Move?

  • The locking mechanism may not be disengaged – try inserting the clip from the other side of the slider.
  • Inspect the zipper from the side to ensure you're accessing the correct side of the lock.
  • For outdoor or pool bean bags, salt, sand, or chlorine may cause the zip to seize – in that case, try rinsing and applying a little WD-40 to free it up.

Damaged the Zipper?

If the zipper has been damaged by force:

  • You may return the product for repair.
  • Zipper repairs cost $50 including GST plus return postage.
  • Send repairs to:
PO Box 417, Sanctuary Cove, QLD 4212

In Summary

The zipper is not broken – it features a child-safe locking mechanism. Use a paper clip to unlock it carefully. If it’s been damaged, repairs are available at a fixed fee.

Mould vs Mildew – What’s the Difference?

Mould and mildew are both types of fungi that thrive in damp, warm environments – but they’re not quite the same thing. Knowing the difference can help you treat and prevent them more effectively on your bean bag or other soft furnishings.

🧫 Mould

  • Thicker, fuzzier texture
  • ✅ Can appear in a variety of colours – black, green, grey, or even orange
  • ✅ Tends to grow deeper into surfaces, making it harder to remove completely
  • ⚠️ May cause a musty smell and health issues if left untreated
  • Common in humid, poorly ventilated areas or when fabric is stored damp

🧪 Mildew

  • Lighter, powdery texture
  • ✅ Usually white, grey, or yellowish in colour
  • ✅ Grows on the surface of fabrics or walls, and is typically easier to clean
  • Often the early stage of mould growth
  • Found on damp fabric, outdoor furniture, or surfaces that don’t dry quickly

Key Differences at a Glance

Feature Mould Mildew
Appearance Fuzzy, patchy, dark colours Powdery, flat, white or grey
Depth of Growth Penetrates deeper into surfaces Stays on the surface
Odour Strong, musty Mild to moderate odour
Health Impact Can trigger allergies or respiratory issues Less harmful but still undesirable
Ease of Removal More difficult, may require deep cleaning Easier to clean with surface treatment

In Summary

Mould is usually darker, thicker, and more damaging, while mildew is lighter and easier to remove. Both thrive in moisture, so the best prevention is to keep your bean bag clean, dry, and well-ventilated.

🧼 Proper Bean Bag Storage

Proper storage is essential to keep your bean bag looking great and lasting longer – especially if it’s used outdoors or only occasionally.

✅ Best Places to Store Your Bean Bag:

  • Indoors – In a dry, well-ventilated room like a garage, spare room, or linen cupboard
  • Covered outdoor spaces – Such as a patio, balcony, or shed with weather protection
  • Storage bag or bin – If you need to compress it, store in a breathable storage bag (not plastic)

🛑 Avoid Storing It In:

  • Damp or humid areas (like basements or near pools)
  • Direct exposure to sunlight for long periods
  • Sealed plastic bags, which can trap moisture and promote mould or mildew growth

🧽 Tips for Safe Storage:

  • Make sure your bean bag is completely dry before storing – this includes both the outer cover and inner filling
  • Clean the fabric if it's been outdoors, especially if exposed to salt, chlorine, or dirt
  • Store off the ground when possible to avoid pests and moisture
  • If using a waterproof cover, ensure it's breathable to allow air circulation

In Summary

Store your bean bag in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Always clean and dry it thoroughly before storing to prevent mould, fading, or damage.

Yes - when used correctly, bean bags can offer several health benefits, particularly in terms of comfort, posture support, and stress relief.

Here’s how:

1. Ergonomic Support

Unlike rigid chairs, bean bags mould to your body’s shape, helping to distribute weight evenly and reduce pressure on joints and muscles. This can be especially beneficial for people who suffer from:

  • Back pain

  • Sciatica

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Joint stiffness

By allowing the spine to align more naturally, bean bags can promote better posture — especially when used as an alternative to low-quality or unsupportive seating.

2. Relaxation and Stress Reduction

Sinking into a soft, supportive bean bag can help your body relax more deeply, lowering stress levels and encouraging a sense of calm. This makes bean bags great for reading, meditating, watching movies, or simply taking a break from a hectic day.

3. Movement and Flexibility

Unlike traditional furniture, bean bags are lightweight and easy to move, allowing you to switch up your seating position or environment frequently — something that’s recommended to prevent sedentary strain or stiffness from staying in one position too long.

4. Suitable for All Ages

From toddlers to seniors, people of all ages can benefit from bean bag seating. We offer a range of sizes and shapes to support different needs — whether it’s a cozy reading nook for kids or a full-body lounger for adults looking to stretch out and unwind.

What to Keep in Mind

While bean bags are supportive and versatile, they shouldn’t replace structured seating 100% of the time — especially for extended work or study sessions. For optimal health, we recommend:

  • Choosing the right size and shape for your body

  • Using a firm, high-quality filling that offers enough support

  • Pairing bean bag use with regular movement and posture changes

In Summary

Yes — bean bags can be good for your health when used thoughtfully. They promote natural posture, reduce muscle strain, and help you relax — making them a stylish and comfortable addition to any space.

How to Reduce Back Pain with Bean Bag

Improve Mobility with a Bean Bag

Improve Posture with Bean Bags

Yes - bean bags can be safe and comfortable for pregnant women when used properly. In fact, many expectant mothers find bean bags to be a supportive and soothing seating option during pregnancy.

Here’s why:

1. Flexible Support for Changing Bodies

During pregnancy, your body goes through a lot of changes — especially in the lower back, hips, and pelvis. Bean bags naturally mould to your shape, offering gentle support where it’s needed most. Unlike rigid chairs, a bean bag allows you to shift positions easily and settle into a posture that feels right for your body.

2. Pressure Relief and Comfort

The soft, contouring nature of a bean bag can relieve pressure points and reduce strain on the lower back and joints — common areas of discomfort during pregnancy. Many women find that lounging on a bean bag helps with relaxation, particularly during the later stages when traditional seating becomes less comfortable.

3. Easy to Get In and Out (With the Right Style)

Not all bean bags are the same. While oversized, slouchy styles may be harder to get out of in the third trimester, our range includes structured designs with back support and elevated seating that make sitting and standing much easier. We recommend choosing a firmer, upright model that offers stability and comfort.

4. Great for Rest, Reading & Bonding Time

Whether you’re looking for a cozy spot to read, nap, or unwind, a bean bag creates a comfortable environment for rest — and later on, it can be a wonderful place for bonding with your newborn during feeding or cuddle time.

Safety Tips for Use During Pregnancy

  • Choose the right size and shape — firmer, supportive bean bags are ideal

  • Place your bean bag on a stable, non-slip surface

  • Use additional pillows for back or leg support if needed

  • Avoid overly deep or saggy bean bags that are difficult to get up from

In Summary

Yes — bean bags can be a safe and comfortable choice for pregnant women, especially when using a supportive and well-designed style. They can help ease back pain, support changing postures, and provide a relaxing space throughout pregnancy.

As always, if you have any health concerns or mobility limitations, it’s best to check with your healthcare provider before introducing new seating.

Yes – in most cases, you’ll need to remove the beans before cleaning the cover.

Many of our bean bags come with an inner liner that holds the filling separately from the outer cover. This makes it easy to remove the cover for washing without handling the loose beads. If your bean bag does not have an inner liner, you will need to empty the filling into a large container or storage bag before cleaning.

Cleaning Tips:

  • Check the care label on your product for specific washing instructions

  • Use a washing bag (included with some styles) to help with easy and mess-free emptying

  • Always zip the cover closed before placing it in the washing machine

  • Allow the cover to air dry completely before refilling

In Summary

Yes – the filling needs to be removed before washing the cover, unless your bean bag includes an inner liner. Liners make cleaning safer, quicker, and much easier.

Olefin vs. Solution-Dyed Acrylic: Outdoor Fabric Comparison

Both Olefin and Solution-Dyed Acrylic are high-performance outdoor fabrics known for their durability, fade resistance, and suitability in harsh environments. While they share many similarities, here’s how they compare:

🧵 1. Material Composition

  • Olefin: Made from polypropylene (a byproduct of refining petroleum or natural gas)
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic: Made from acrylic fibres dyed during fibre creation

☀️ 2. UV & Fade Resistance

  • Both fabrics offer excellent UV protection
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic is the gold standard for colourfastness, ideal for year-round sun exposure

💧 3. Water & Mildew Resistance

  • Olefin: Naturally hydrophobic – dries quickly and resists moisture without extra coating
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic: Water-resistant, but may take slightly longer to dry

🛋️ 4. Feel & Texture

  • Olefin: Slightly stiffer feel, though modern versions offer a softer, linen-like finish
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic: Generally softer and more upholstery-like

🌱 5. Environmental Impact

  • Olefin: More eco-friendly – uses less water/energy and is fully recyclable
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic: Longer-lasting but more energy-intensive to manufacture

🧽 6. Maintenance

  • Both are easy to clean
  • Olefin: Naturally stain-resistant due to its chemical structure
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic: Handles tough stains well and is easy to spot-clean

📊 In Summary

Feature Olefin Solution-Dyed Acrylic
Material Polypropylene Acrylic fibre
UV Resistance Excellent Outstanding (best in class)
Water Resistance Superior – dries fast Very good – may absorb slightly
Feel Durable, slightly firmer Softer, more like indoor fabric
Eco-Friendly Highly recyclable, low-impact Durable but more resource-heavy
Best For Poolside, marine, casual outdoor use Premium resorts, high-sun environments

Products

Great question—and one we’re often asked!

The short answer: We do not recommend putting your bean bag cover in the dryer.

Here’s why:

Most of our bean bag covers are made from high-performance fabrics designed for durability, UV resistance, and water-repellency—especially those intended for outdoor use. These materials are tough, but the intense heat and tumbling action of a clothes dryer can weaken the fabric, damage zippers, or cause shrinkage. In some cases, heat exposure may also reduce the effectiveness of coatings like waterproof or stain-resistant finishes.

To protect the longevity and appearance of your bean bag, we strongly suggest the following drying method:

How to Dry Your Bean Bag Cover Safely

  1. Remove all filling before washing (our covers are designed with internal liners to make this process easy).

  2. After washing, gently shake off any excess water.

  3. Hang the cover in a shaded, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.

  4. Avoid pegs or clips that could leave marks—drape it evenly over a drying rack or clothesline.

Why Air Drying Is Best

  • Maintains shape and structure of the fabric

  • Prevents shrinking or warping

  • Protects zippers, stitching, and coatings

  • Extends the life of your bean bag cover

A Note on Indoor Covers

If your bean bag is made from indoor-only fabrics (like faux fur, velvet, or indoor canvas), the same rules apply. While they may feel softer, they still aren’t typically designed for tumble drying unless the care label says otherwise. Always check the care instructions on the label before cleaning or drying your cover.

In Summary

To keep your bean bag looking and feeling its best, always air dry your cover—never tumble dry.

It’s the safest, gentlest way to preserve the quality of your fabric and stitching.

Our bean bags are designed to be durable and pet-friendly, but no bean bag is completely “dog proof.” That said, many of our customers use our bean bags for their furry friends—and with the right care and product choice, they can hold up very well.

Here’s What Makes Our Bean Bags Pet-Friendly:

  • Tough, high-quality fabrics — Many of our covers are made from heavy-duty materials like solution-dyed acrylic and outdoor-grade polyester, which are more resistant to scratching, chewing, and general wear and tear.

  • Double stitching and reinforced seams — Helps prevent damage from digging paws and rough play.

  • Removable, washable covers — Accidents happen! Our removable covers make cleanup a breeze and help keep your bean bag fresh.

  • Water-resistant and stain-resistant options — Great for both indoor and outdoor use, especially for pets who like to bring the outdoors inside.

Things to Keep in Mind

While our bean bags are built to last, no fabric is entirely immune to a determined chewer or scratch-happy pup. If your dog is known for destructive behaviour, we recommend supervising them when they’re using the bean bag or opting for a tougher pet-specific bed.

Also, keep in mind that sharp claws may still cause wear over time, especially on indoor fabrics like velvet or faux fur. For the most dog-resistant options, look at our outdoor or commercial-grade fabrics — they’re the best bet for homes with active pets.

In Summary

Our bean bags are pet-friendly and made from durable materials, but they’re not entirely dog proof. With the right fabric and a bit of care, they can definitely withstand everyday use from your four-legged friends.

How to Stop Dogs Chewing their beds

Like all soft furnishings, bean bags can pose a fire risk if exposed to open flame or extreme heat. However, at Bean Bags R Us, we take fire safety seriously and use materials that meet or exceed safety standards wherever possible.

Here’s What You Need to Know:

Clothing, carpets, curtains, and furniture — including bean bags — can all contribute to fire hazards in the home. But you can minimise the risk by choosing products that are made with fire-conscious materials and comply with federal, state, and local fire regulations.

Our outdoor range of bean bags is made from polyester, solution-dyed acrylic, and olefin fabrics — all of which are non-flammable and tested for safety. These materials comply with Australian Standard AS3744.1-1998, offering a higher level of protection compared to standard fabrics.

Check Product Specifications

Each of our products has its own set of materials and safety features. You can find detailed information about fire safety and fabric composition under the Product Specification tab on each product page.

For added peace of mind:

  • Avoid placing bean bags near open flames, heaters, or heat sources

  • Always follow care and safety instructions provided

  • Choose outdoor-grade fabrics for added durability and flame resistance

In Summary

Yes — many of our bean bags, especially those in our outdoor range, are made with non-flammable materials that comply with fire safety standards. While no fabric is entirely fireproof, you can reduce risk by choosing high-quality, certified materials and using your bean bag responsibly.

Still have questions about fire safety or compliance? Our team is happy to help you choose the safest option for your space.

At Bean Bags R Us, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and creating products that are built to last. While not all components of a bean bag are fully recyclable, we make every effort to use environmentally conscious materials and responsible manufacturing practices wherever possible.

Here’s What We’re Doing to Be More Eco-Friendly:

  • Durable, long-lasting materials – Our bean bags are designed for longevity, which helps reduce waste over time. High-quality construction means you won’t need to replace them as often as cheaper alternatives.

  • Solution-dyed acrylics and olefin fabrics – Many of our outdoor products use fabrics that are not only UV-resistant and non-toxic, but also produced using more sustainable, low-water dyeing processes.

  • Minimal packaging – We aim to reduce unnecessary plastics and packaging materials in our shipping processes.

  • Reusable & replaceable components – Most of our covers are removable and replaceable, allowing customers to refresh their bean bag without discarding the entire product.

Are They Recyclable?

While some parts of a bean bag — like fabric and polystyrene filling — can technically be recycled, it depends on local recycling capabilities. Expanded polystyrene (EPS), commonly used as bean bag fill, can be recycled, but often requires specialist facilities.

If you’re looking to dispose of or repurpose a bean bag:

  • Contact your local council or recycling centre to check EPS recycling options

  • Consider reusing the filling in other cushions, craft projects, or as packing material

  • Our removable covers can often be donated or repurposed

In Summary

Our bean bags are designed with durability and sustainability in mind, using quality materials and responsible manufacturing practices. While they aren’t fully recyclable in all areas, we’re continuously looking for ways to improve our environmental impact.

Yes – our bean bags are designed with safety as a top priority. At Bean Bags R Us, we follow strict safety standards to ensure our products are safe for people of all ages, including children.

Here’s How We Prioritise Safety:

  • Child-Safe Zippers – All our bean bags feature child-resistant safety zippers without pull tags, in compliance with Australian safety standard AS/NZS 8124.1. This prevents young children from accessing the filling inside the bag.

  • Durable Stitching & Quality Construction – Our bean bags are made with reinforced stitching and premium materials to reduce the risk of tearing, leaking, or bursting – even with regular use.

  • Non-Toxic Materials – We use fabrics and components that are free from harmful chemicals like lead or formaldehyde, ensuring our products are safe for skin contact and everyday use.

  • Compliant Fillings – Our polystyrene bead filling is lightweight and comfortable, and should always be stored and handled safely. We recommend keeping bags sealed and away from young children during filling or refilling.

  • Clear Safety Instructions – Every product comes with easy-to-follow safety and care guidelines to ensure proper usage and maintenance.

A Note on Usage

As with any furniture item, supervision is always recommended for young children. Bean bags should be placed on a flat, stable surface and kept away from heat sources, sharp objects, or open flames.

In Summary

Yes – our bean bags are safe when used as intended. They are built to meet strict safety standards and designed with features that protect your family, including child-safe zippers, non-toxic materials, and high-quality craftsmanship.

9 Bean Bag Chair Safety Tips to Follow

Yes – many of our bean bags are water resistant, especially those in our outdoor range. They're designed to handle splashes, spills, and light rain, making them perfect for poolside lounging, patios, and outdoor living.

Water Resistance by Fabric Type

  • Outdoor Fabrics (Polyester, Solution-Dyed Acrylic, Olefin)
These materials are designed to repel water and dry quickly. They're also resistant to mildew, fading, and UV exposure. While they can handle moisture, we always recommend storing them in a dry, covered area when not in use to extend their lifespan.

  • Indoor Fabrics (Cotton, Velvet, Faux Fur, etc.)
These materials are not water resistant and should be kept indoors, away from moisture or spills. If exposed to water, they can absorb liquid and may be harder to clean or dry quickly.

What Water Resistant Means

Water resistant doesn’t mean waterproof. Our outdoor bean bags will withstand everyday splashes, light rain, or damp towels after a swim, but they shouldn’t be left in heavy rain or fully submerged. To keep your bean bag looking its best:

  • Wipe off spills promptly

  • Store it undercover when not in use

  • Avoid soaking or hosing it down

In Summary

Yes – many of our bean bags, particularly those designed for outdoor use, are made from water-resistant fabrics. They’re great for casual outdoor living but should still be cared for properly to maintain performance and appearance.

Need help choosing a water-resistant style? Check the Product Specification tab on each product page or contact our team – we’re happy to help!

Yes – many of our bean bags, especially those in our outdoor collection, are UV and fade resistant. They’re designed to withstand the harsh Australian sun and maintain their colour and integrity over time.

Built for Outdoor Durability

We use high-performance fabrics such as:

  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic

  • Olefin

  • Outdoor-Grade Polyester

These materials are specifically engineered to resist UV damage and colour fading. Solution-dyed fabrics, for example, are dyed before the fibres are woven, ensuring the colour is locked in at a molecular level. This results in superior fade resistance compared to traditionally dyed fabrics.

Why UV Resistance Matters

If you’re using your bean bag outdoors — by the pool, on the patio, or at the beach — exposure to sunlight can quickly degrade ordinary fabrics. Our UV-resistant bean bags:

  • Retain their colour longer

  • Resist fabric weakening and breakdown

  • Provide better value and longevity

Tips to Maximise Lifespan

While our outdoor bean bags are built tough, you can extend their life even further by:

  • Storing them in a shaded or covered area when not in use

  • Using protective covers during long periods of harsh sun exposure

  • Cleaning them regularly to prevent surface build-up that can attract UV damage

In Summary

Yes – our outdoor bean bags are made from UV and fade-resistant fabrics designed to stand up to sun exposure and retain their good looks for years. They're ideal for use around pools, decks, gardens, and other sunny spaces.

Check the Product Specification tab on each product page for details on UV resistance, or reach out to our team for personalised recommendations.

Many of our bean bags can be customised with your logo or branding, but not all styles are suitable.

We offer custom printing and branding options on a wide range of our products, especially those made with outdoor-grade polyester or olefin fabrics. These materials provide a durable surface for applying logos, making them ideal for:

  • Events & festivals

  • Outdoor cinemas

  • Resorts & hotels

  • Schools & corporate promotions

⚠️ Customisation Limitations:

  • Some indoor fabrics (like faux suede, cotton, or denim) are not suitable for logo printing due to texture or cleaning requirements

  • Several bean bag models are not structurally suitable for printing, including:

    • Big Bob

    • Teeny Bob

    • Billy the Kid

    • Teddy Chair

    • Big Boss Chair

    • Malibu

  • These styles have rounded, soft, or irregular shapes that do not allow for effective logo application

How It Works:

  1. Let us know which product(s) you’re interested in

  2. Send us your logo or artwork file

  3. Our team will confirm compatibility and provide a mock-up and quote

  4. We’ll take care of the rest – including production and delivery

In Summary

Most of our outdoor and commercial-grade bean bags can be branded with your logo, but some styles—such as Big Bob, Teeny Bob, Billy the Kid, Teddy Chair, Big Boss Chair, and Malibu—are not suitable due to their structure.

Want to find out which styles work best for your branding? Contact our team – we’re happy to help!

We do not recommend ironing your bean bag cover.

Most of our covers are made from high-performance fabrics such as polyester, solution-dyed acrylic, or olefin, which are specifically designed to be low-maintenance and resistant to wrinkling. These materials can be damaged by direct heat, and ironing may cause melting, warping, or loss of protective coatings like UV or water resistance.

What to Do Instead

If your cover has slight creases or wrinkles:

  • Hang it up and let gravity do the work

  • Use a hand steamer on a low setting, keeping it a safe distance from the fabric

  • For outdoor covers, laying them in the sun briefly can help relax the fabric naturally

In Summary

No – ironing is not recommended for bean bag covers, as high heat can damage the fabric. Instead, use gentle steaming or hanging methods to smooth out any wrinkles.

Still have questions about fabric care? Check the Product Specification tab or contact our team — we’re happy to help!

We do not recommend leaving your bean bag outside when not in use.

While many of our outdoor bean bags are made with durable, weather-resistant fabrics like polyester, solution-dyed acrylic, and olefin, prolonged exposure to the elements can still cause damage over time. Atmospheric influences such as UV rays, moisture, dirt, and pollutants can rapidly degrade any fabric, even those designed for outdoor use.

Best Practice for Outdoor Use

To keep your bean bag looking great and lasting longer:

  • Use it outdoors, but store it indoors or in a sheltered area when not in use

  • Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight, rain, or dew for extended periods

  • Wipe down and air dry regularly to prevent mould and staining

For added protection, consider using a waterproof storage box, furniture cover, or keeping it under a patio or awning.

In Summary

No – we don’t recommend leaving your bean bag outside permanently. Even outdoor fabrics will degrade if exposed to harsh weather, UV rays, and airborne pollutants over time. For best results, store your bean bag in a dry, protected space when not in use.

Need tips on storage or care? Our team is always here to help!

Yes – our pool bean bags are designed for use in both chlorinated and salt water.

They're made with marine-grade, water-resistant materials that are durable, quick-drying, and resistant to fading, mould, and mildew. Whether you’re lounging in a backyard pool or at the beach, our pool bean bags are built to handle wet environments with ease.

Important Care Tips:

To get the best performance and longevity from your pool bean bag:

  • Rinse with fresh water after use in chlorinated or salt water to prevent chemical or salt build-up

  • Air dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area before storing

  • Avoid dragging it across rough surfaces that may cause abrasion

  • Store in a dry place when not in use to extend the life of the fabric and filling

In Summary

Yes – our pool bean bags are safe for use in chlorinated and salt water. Just be sure to rinse and dry them properly after each use to keep them looking and performing their best.

Not all bean bags are made for the water – here's what to know

Our outdoor bean bags are water-resistant, but they are not designed to be used in water.

While many of our outdoor models are made from durable, quick-drying, and water-repellent fabrics, they are intended for use near water – not in it. This means they’re perfect for poolside lounging, beach settings, or damp environments, but they should not be submerged or floated in pools, lakes, or the ocean unless specifically labelled as pool-safe.

Important Differences:

  • Outdoor Bean Bags – Water-resistant, UV-resistant, and great for wet or humid environments. Best used around water, not in it.
  • Pool Bean Bags – Specifically designed to float or be used on water. These are made with marine-grade mesh and materials that allow water to flow through and drain properly. If you’re after a floating bean bag, look for products clearly marked as pool-friendly or suitable for in-water use.

Care Tip:

If your outdoor bean bag gets wet from rain or splashes:

  • Allow it to air dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water or full immersion
  • Store it under cover when not in use to extend its life

In Summary

No – our outdoor bean bags are not designed to be used in water. They’re water-resistant and perfect for poolside or outdoor use, but for floating or in-water lounging, please choose one of our dedicated pool bean bag models.

Clarification on Coco Cotton Bean Bag Labeling

We’d like to address a recent issue regarding the labeling of a batch of our Coco Cotton Bean Bags. A small number of bean bags in this batch were incorrectly labeled with a 'polyester' tag. We want to assure our valued customers that this was a labeling error and does not affect the quality or composition of the product in any way.

What Happened?

Due to an oversight during the manufacturing process, a batch of our Coco Cotton Bean Bags was mistakenly tagged with polyester labels instead of the correct cotton labels. We understand how important it is for you to know exactly what materials are in the products you purchase, and we sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

What Are the Materials in the Bean Bags?

We want to reassure you that the Coco Cotton Bean Bags are, and always have been, 100% cotton. The product is made from high-quality cotton fibers, and the outer fabric is also made from soft, durable cotton. The polyester label was an error, but the product itself is still fully in line with our commitment to providing natural, cotton-based products.

How Can I Be Sure?

If you're unsure whether your Coco Cotton Bean Bag is from the affected batch, you can check the product's packaging or reach out to us directly. We’ll be happy to confirm whether your specific item was impacted. Additionally, if you ever have concerns about the authenticity of the materials, feel free to contact our customer service team, and we’ll provide any necessary verification.

What Should I Do If I Received an Incorrectly Labeled Product?

If you have purchased one of the affected bean bags and are concerned about the labeling error, please get in touch with our customer service team. We will be more than happy to assist you with a return, exchange, or any other solution that will resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

Our Commitment

We take pride in the quality of our products and the trust our customers place in us. Rest assured, we have already taken steps to ensure this labeling issue does not occur again. We appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Thank you for choosing our Coco Cotton Bean Bags. If you have any further questions, simply contact our team.

Do Bean Bags Attract Dust Mites?

Like most soft furnishings, bean bags can attract dust mites over time – but with proper care, the risk is minimal.

Dust mites are microscopic organisms that thrive in warm, humid environments and feed on dead skin cells. They’re commonly found in bedding, carpets, and upholstered furniture. While bean bags are less likely to harbour dust mites than traditional cushions or mattresses, they’re not completely immune—especially if not cleaned regularly.

How to Minimise Dust Mites:

  • Choose the Right Fabric – Many of our bean bags are made from tightly woven, synthetic materials like polyester, olefin, and solution-dyed acrylic, which are less hospitable to dust mites compared to cotton or plush fabrics.
  • Use Bean Bags with Removable Covers – Most of our products come with removable covers that can be machine washed or hand washed, making it easy to keep them clean.
  • Clean Regularly – Vacuum the surface of your bean bag, especially if it’s in high-use areas like lounges or kids' rooms. Wash the cover periodically, following the care instructions.
  • Keep in a Dry Environment – Dust mites thrive in humidity, so keeping your bean bag in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space helps discourage them.

In Summary

Yes – bean bags can attract dust mites if not cleaned regularly, but they are far easier to maintain than many other soft furnishings. With the right care and cleaning routine, they remain a low-risk and hygienic seating option.

Should I Use a Bean Bag Inner Liner?

Yes – we highly recommend using a bean bag inner liner, and many of our products include one as standard.

An inner liner holds the filling in place and sits inside the outer cover, making your bean bag safer, easier to clean, and more convenient to maintain.

Benefits of Using an Inner Liner:

  • Easy Cleaning – You can remove and wash the outer cover without having to empty the filling. This makes regular cleaning quick and mess-free.
  • Safety – Especially important in households with children, as liners help prevent accidental access to loose filling. Many inner liners feature child-safe zippers.
  • Convenience – Makes refilling, topping up, or adjusting the beans much easier without spilling.
  • Shape Retention – Liners help maintain the structure and shape of your bean bag over time.

When a Liner is Essential:

  • For machine-washable bean bags
  • For kids’ bean bags, especially when used with soft toy or shredded foam filling
  • When using alternative fillings like foam, fabric scraps, or plush toys

In Summary

Yes – a bean bag inner liner is highly recommended for safety, convenience, and easy maintenance. Most of our bean bags include an inner liner, but always check the product description to be sure. Some products are not suitable for inner liners due to their structure.

Need help finding a liner or confirming if your product includes one? Contact our team – we’re happy to assist!

UV & Light Fastness Standards

Our outdoor and pool bean bags are crafted using premium solution-dyed Olefin fabric, specifically chosen for its excellent durability and resistance to fading in outdoor conditions.

Light Fastness Testing & Standards:

  • Tested to ISO 105-B02 and AATCC TM16 standards using xenon arc light to simulate sunlight
  • Rated Grade 7–8 out of 8 for color fastness to light
  • Meets or exceeds Australian Standard AS 2001.4.21 for outdoor textile performance

🌞 What That Means for You

Our fabric is designed to resist fading for up to 1,000 hours of direct sunlight exposure.

However, as Australia receives 2,500–3,500 hours of sunshine annually, we recommend following the care instructions provided to extend the life and appearance of your bean bag.

Proper care = longer life

  • Always store your bean bag out of direct sunlight when not in use
  • Ensure it's clean and dry before storing
Do Your Pool Bean Bags Need to Be Inflated?

No – our pool bean bags do not require inflation.

They float naturally thanks to the EPS (expanded polystyrene) bean bag filling, which is lightweight and filled with air. This filling provides excellent buoyancy, allowing the bean bag to float comfortably on water without the need for pumps or inflating.

How It Works:

  • Fill your pool bean bag with standard polystyrene beads (not included)
  • The beads contain a high volume of air, which gives the bean bag its natural buoyancy
  • Simply place it in the pool and enjoy – no setup or inflation needed!

In Summary

No – there’s no need to inflate our pool bean bags. Just fill them with EPS beads and they’re ready to float.

Need help choosing the right filling or size for your pool bean bag? Contact us here – we’re happy to assist!

Do Your Bean Bags Contain Latex, Rubber, or Spandex?

No – our bean bags do not contain natural rubber, latex, neoprene, or spandex.

We understand the importance of allergy concerns and can confirm that our products are made using synthetic fabrics such as polyester, olefin, and solution-dyed acrylic, along with standard EPS (expanded polystyrene) bead filling. None of these materials are known to trigger latex or rubber allergies.

Materials Typically Used in Our Products:

  • Polyester (PU-coated for water resistance in some models)
  • Olefin (outdoor-grade fabric)
  • Solution-Dyed Acrylic
  • Cotton, denim, and linen (in select indoor styles)
  • EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) beads for filling

All components are carefully selected for safety, comfort, durability, and non-reactivity under everyday use.

In Summary

No – our bean bags do not contain rubber, latex, neoprene, or spandex, making them a safe option for individuals with material sensitivities or allergies.

Have specific allergy concerns or want confirmation for a particular model? Contact our team – we’re happy to assist!

Is Olefin Environmentally Friendly?

Yes – olefin is considered one of the more environmentally friendly synthetic fabrics available today. It’s a smart choice for both outdoor durability and sustainability.

🌿 Why Olefin Is Eco-Friendly:

♻️ Made from Waste

Olefin is made from polypropylene, a byproduct of petroleum refining that would otherwise go to waste. This repurposing of material gives it a low environmental impact in production.

🌱 Energy-Efficient Manufacturing

The production of olefin requires less water and energy compared to natural fibres or other synthetics. It generates minimal waste and emissions, making it a cleaner option.

🧼 Low Maintenance

Olefin is stain-resistant, fast-drying, and easy to clean with just mild soap and water. This reduces the need for harsh chemical cleaners, which can be harmful to the environment.

🔄 Recyclable

Olefin is fully recyclable, and in many cases can be remelted and reused. It’s also non-toxic and does not release harmful substances during use or disposal.

In Summary

Yes – olefin is an environmentally friendly fabric that’s made from repurposed materials, uses low-impact manufacturing, and is durable, recyclable, and easy to maintain.

Do You Use Real Fur?

No – we do not use real animal fur in any of our products.

All of our fur-style bean bags and accessories are made using high-quality faux fur (synthetic materials) designed to replicate the look and feel of real fur—without harming animals.

About Our Faux Fur:

  • Made from synthetic fibres such as polyester or acrylic
  • Designed to be soft, warm, and luxurious
  • Cruelty-free and vegan-friendly
  • Easy to clean and maintain

What is Denier?

Denier (represented by the “D” in fabric specs like 1680D) is a unit of measurement that refers to the thickness and weight of the fibres used to make the fabric. It’s commonly used to indicate the strength and durability of materials like polyester or nylon.

What Does It Mean?

Denier measures the linear mass density of the fibre:

  • 1 denier = the mass (in grams) of 9,000 metres of fibre
  • So, 1680D polyester means the fibres used weigh 1,680 grams per 9,000 metres

Why It Matters:

  • Higher denier = thicker, tougher, more durable fabric
  • Lower denier = lighter, softer, and more flexible fabric
  • For bean bags – especially outdoor or commercial-grade models – a higher denier like 1680D offers superior resistance to wear, water, and UV exposure

In Summary

Denier is a measure of fibre thickness – the higher the number, the stronger and more resilient the fabric. Our 1680D polyester is up to 4x thicker than standard bean bag materials, making it ideal for heavy-duty use.

Cotton vs Polyester Bean Bag Fabrics

Cotton and polyester are two of the most common bean bag fabrics – each with its own strengths, feel, and ideal use. Choosing between them depends on how and where you’ll be using your bean bag.

  • ✅ Feels cool and comfortable against the skin
  • ✅ Great for indoor use – ideal for bedrooms, loungerooms, and reading nooks
  • ✅ Machine washable (when removable cover is included)

  • Water-resistant – ideal for outdoor, poolside, or high-traffic use
  • ✅ Easy to clean – wipeable surface and stain-resistant
  • ✅ Often used in commercial settings, schools, and outdoor cinemas
  • 🔻 Less breathable than cotton – may feel warmer on hot days

🪑 Bean Bag Styles Without Inner Liners

The following bean bag styles do not come with an inner liner:

  • Amalfi
  • Malibu
  • Cabo
  • Brooklyn
  • Big Bob
  • Teddy Chair
  • Teeny Bob
  • Furlah

These designs are single-shell bean bags, meaning the filling goes directly into the outer cover. When cleaning or storing, it’s important to handle with care, as there is no separate liner to contain the filling.

Want the Convenience of a Liner?

If you prefer the ease of cleaning or refilling, many of our other models include inner liners as standard — or you can purchase a spare liner for select styles.

In Summary

The above styles do not include inner liners, so the beads go directly into the outer cover. Check each product page for liner details or contact our team if you’re unsure.

🧷 Why Don’t We Include a Paper Clip?

We do not include a paper clip with your bean bag due to safety and packaging regulations.

All our bean bags are fitted with child-safe locking zippers, which comply with Australian and U.S. safety standards. These zippers do not have pull tabs and require a tool (like a paper clip) to open or close.

Why We Don’t Include One:

  • 🔒 Safety Compliance: Including a tool could be seen as encouraging access to the bean bag’s filling, which would violate child safety laws.
  • 📦 Packaging Simplicity: Paper clips are small, easily lost, and not considered a hygienic or secure item to include in packaging.
  • 🏠 Household Alternatives: Most homes already have a paper clip, safety pin, or corn cob holder that works perfectly.

How to Open the Zipper:

  1. Locate the small hole on the zipper slider.
  2. Insert a paper clip, safety pin, or similar narrow tool.
  3. Gently lift or rotate the tool to unlock the mechanism.
  4. While holding the tool in place, slide the zipper open or closed.

Tip: Zipper instructions are also printed on the warning label attached to your bean bag and included in the instruction sheet provided with your order.

✅ In Summary

We don’t provide a paper clip due to safety and packaging standards. You can use any small household item to operate the child-safe zipper mechanism.

What If I’m Not Home for Delivery?

No problem! There are a few easy options if you won’t be home when your delivery arrives.

Here’s What You Can Do:

✅ Select ‘Authority to Leave’ at Checkout

  • This allows the courier to leave your parcel in a safe place at your address without needing a signature
  • Ideal if you won't be home during delivery hours
  • Please ensure your chosen location is safe, sheltered, and accessible

📝 Leave a Delivery Note

  • Include delivery instructions in the comments section at checkout (e.g. “Leave at front door” or “Leave behind gate”)

📦 Use a Different Address

  • Consider entering a workplace or trusted neighbour’s address where someone will be available to receive the parcel

📬 Missed the Delivery?

  • If no one is available and no authority to leave has been given, the courier may leave a card with instructions to reschedule delivery or collect from a nearby location (e.g. post office or depot)

In Summary

If you won’t be home, choose ‘Authority to Leave’ at checkout or provide a safe alternate address. You can also leave delivery instructions to help ensure a smooth drop-off.
